DPC is grateful that Protect Dunsfold and WBC have challenged drilling decision.

8 June, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 5:00 pm

In the Parish Council meeting on 7th June the newly elected Parish Council has changed the previous council’s studied silence on the topic of the UKOG drilling proposal and expressed its gratitude that Protect Dunsfold and Waverley Borough have challenged the Dept of levelling up ministerial decision to allow UKOG to explore for gas in a field in the parish.
A Protect Dunsfold ground for the challenge are that the minister made an error in law in permitting the drilling at Loxley while refusing permission for a very similar project in the Wirral. One of the main reasons for the refusal was the volume of harmful greenhouse gas emissions that the development would emit. In the Dunsfold decision greenhouse gas emissions were not even mentioned despite the fact that the volume was even higher than the ones in the Wirral. This seems to be inconsistent decision making which is unlawful – we hope the judge agrees.
A second ground for the challenge that is similar to that of Waverley Borough is that the minister and inspector erred in their assessment of the weight that should be given to harm to the AONB that the development would inflict.

Protect Dunsfold provided a briefing on the court case that can be viewed here
